These are real stories reported in the press over here.  Of course there are crazy stories in the paper no matter what country you are in but I think these have a different "international" flair.

Mr. Lee, a 45-year-old South Korean man, covered himself in fuel and lit himself on fire on a Korean beach.  He left a suicide note behind explaining that he planned to become the ghostly 12th player who will aid the Korean soccer team to victory over Portugal on Friday June 14th.  Korea went all the way to the final four so who knows, maybe it worked out for him (and the Korean team).

Laws in Kuala Lumpur that were trying to be passed to prevent things such as limb amputation for theft were challenged on the grounds that they are unconstitutional.

Elementary schools in Tokyo have reportedly sent home emergency procedures to parents explaining what is to be done if a soccer riot breaks out and how to keep children safe from hooligans.

A Shinkansen train (the high speed bullet train) made a special stop on its way through Shizuoka to pick up some stranded German tourists who rode the wrong train after watching a World Cup match.
